Cougars Win Big

Alke Dietel led the way with 15 points and 13 different Washington State University players scored Sunday as the Cougars thumped the Portland Saints 89-65 in an exhibition women’s basketball game at Pullman.

WSU shots 51.5 percent from the field, sinking 35 of 68 attempts and hitting six times from 3-point range.

Alicia Rubio turned in a fine all-around performance for the Cougars, scoring eight points, grabbing eight rebounds and collecting three steals and a blocked shot.

Each team won five matches, but host Lassen College recorded a pair of pins and a technical fall to defeat previously unbeaten North Idaho College 23-15 in a battle of community college powers Saturday night in Susanville, Calif.

Lassen (6-0) closed the door on the Cardinals (5-1) in the 190-pound match when Dupree Lacey won with a pin.

Shane Anderson gave NIC its biggest victory, turning back Lassen’s Brandon Chesher, 6-3 at 142. Chesher was Michigan’s first four-time state high-school champion. , DataTimes
