Truck Hit By Train, But Driver Escapes

From Staff And Wire Reports

A truck hauling heavy equipment stalled at a rail crossing and was hit by a Burlington Northern freight train. The truck driver escaped injury.

Witnesses reported that the brakes apparently locked up on a Pacific Rock Products truck, which was towing a trailer with an excavator, just as the rig was crossing the tracks Saturday afternoon, Clark County sheriff’s deputies said.

The driver fled as the train approached.

In the crash, the train’s left fuel tank was ruptured, causing a spill.

Firefighters contained the leak and plugged the hole.
