Federal investigators have checked out the site of a plane crash that killed Yakima businessman Michael Mercy and his 16-year-old son.
The plane engines will be sent to Phoenix to be examined. A spokesman for the National Transportation Safety Board said the cause of the crash could take six months to determine.
Mercy, whose age was not immediately available, was flying the 22-year-old Aero Commander to Seattle when it crashed and burst into flames about 10:30 p.m. Friday near the Yakima airport. His son, Michael Jr., was the only passenger, police Sgt. Larry Worden said.
Michael Mercy owned indoor movie theaters in Yakima and also was a commercial real estate developer with extensive holdings.
