Dollar Gains Ground On Yen

The dollar rose against the Japanese yen but fell vs. the German mark Monday after a report showed that Asia’s currency crisis has severely eroded Japanese companies’ confidence in the country’s economy.

The dollar peaked at 131.45 yen - its highest point since May 1992 - after the Bank of Japan released its business confidence survey.

But the yen recouped some of those losses as traders grew wary ahead of today’s announcement of Japanese government measures aimed at stabilizing the country’s sagging financial system.
