Four University of Idaho researchers have received a three-year, $748,000 grant from the U.S. department of Energy to study bioremediation of soils containing heavy metals and radiation-emitting contaminants.

Scott Fendorf, professor at the UI department of plant, soil and entomological sciences is the principal researcher. He will be joined by Matt Morra, soil biogeochemist, Guy Knudsen, soil microbiologist, and Frank Rosenzweig, from the department of biological sciences.

Kootenai Electric Cooperative recently presented a $500 check to the Panhandle Chapter of the American Red Cross in recognition of the chapter’s community assistance during last year’s ice storm.

The East Bonner County Library Literacy Program recently awarded literacy tutors with a gift certificate during a recognition tea.

The tutors have each donated several hours this past year to work with one or more adult learners. , DataTimes MEMO: Contact for Idaho Good Deeds is Sherry Adkins.
