Nanny Found Guilty Of Murdering Infant
A nanny was convicted of murder Monday for suffocating a 6-month-old in her care as the boy’s parents slept in another room.
Donna Gist, 35, was accused of shaking, beating and suffocating Matthew Hendrickson in January 1996. She faces a maximum penalty of life in prison at her Jan. 22 sentencing.
Gist was a licensed practical nurse working for a home health service when she was hired to care for Matthew at his Winfield home. The boy had a chronic digestive problem and vomited frequently.
Defense lawyers contended Matthew died of injuries suffered before Gist started her shift.
