Pirates Re-Sign Ward

Outfielder Turner Ward and the Pittsburgh Pirates avoided salary arbitration when they agreed to a $1.6 million, two-year contract.

Harry Caray will return for his 16th season as the Chicago Cubs’ announcer, and he’s bringing his grandson, Chip Caray, with him.

Before joining WGN-TV, Chip Caray was a TV play-by-play announcer for the Seattle Mariners.

A judge in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, lifted a restraining order against former Boston Red Sox outfielder Wilfredo Cordero, a week after his wife claimed he had threatened her.

Ana Echevarria Morales sought court protection from her husband, then relented after the couple resolved the “minor incident,” said Cordero’s lawyer, Jose Quinones Cruz.

The Cleveland Indians fortified their bench, agreeing to minor-league contracts with catcher Pat Borders and infielder Jeff Manto.

The Los Angeles Dodgers signed pitcher Tim Scott and outfielder Ricky Otero to minor-league contracts and invited them to spring training as non-roster invitees.
