Sta Revised Route Changes

From the digest in The Region section, December 20, 1997: STA ROUTE CHANGES LEFT OUT OF REPORT New routes approved Wednesday by the Spokane Transit Authority board of directors include three significant changes that weren’t included in information packets STA provided to the media. As a result, descriptions of three routes were incorrect in a list in Thursday’s Spokesman-Review. The new routes are effective in September 1998. The correct information is: Line 1 (Nevada): Provides 15-minute service to Bridgeport in both directions. North of Bridgeport, 30-minute service is provided on two branches. One runs north on Addision and Standard, providing service to Holy Family Hospital and Lilac Plaza. The other continues north on Nevada to the NorthPointe Plaza and Whitworth College. Line 4 (Monroe): Provides 15-minute service on Monroe between downtown and Wellesley. North of Wellesley, two branches provide 30-minute service. The west branch continues north on Monroe to Francis, then east to Alberta, south to Rowan, east to G Street, north to Francis, and back to Monroe. The east branch runs north on Wall, east on Westmont and south on Monroe to Wellesley. Line 13 (Maple/Ash): Provides 15-minute service during peak hours, and every 30 minutes during midday between downtown and Francis. From the Five Mile park-and-ride lot, peak service continues on two spurs, one to the Hastings park-and-ride lot and one along Indian Trail.

On Wednesday, the Spokane Transit Authority board of directors approved the agency’s first major route changes in 16 years. The changes, which take effect September 1998, are far less sweeping than those and Oregon consultant suggested earlier this year.

Many of the changes put more buses on the busiest routes - and offer more direct routes - to colleges and shopping centers.

But some routes no longer go into residential neighborhoods so riders may have to walk farther to catch a bus.
