Ferris let its early chances get away Thursday, but used some late-match lightning to edge Rogers 35-33 in a Greater Spokane League wrestling meet at Ferris.

Tyson Bevin (168 pounds), Ty Williams (178) and Chad Cluever closed out the meet with first-round pins as the Saxons (2-1) reversed Rogers’ 33-17 lead.

The Pirates (2-1) had the early-match fortune, as Marshal Sims (275), Andy Dahl (115) and Tony Kenyon (141) earned wins that could have gone the other way.

Sims scored a takedown in overtime for a 7-5 win after Jeremy Morton attempted a head-and-arm move. Nathan Yates led Dahl 7-2 when he was caught on a third-period pin. Kenyon pinned Jose Rodriguez, also in the third round, after trailing 6-2.

Elsewhere in the league, Lewis and Clark edged Mount Spokane 32-30 and Gonzaga Prep defeated Shadle Park 63-6.

At LC, the Tigers (1-2) won four consecutive matches, starting at 141, to pull away from the Wildcats (0-3). Derreck Johnson (141) scored a major decision, Dan Cowger (148) and Jimmy Lehrman (158) decisions, and Ronnie Russamanno (168) a pin during LC’s streak. Lehrman won 11-9 with a late near fall.

At Shadle Park, G-Prep (3-0) registered seven pins over the Highlanders (0-3) despite resting state veterans Nick Bliss and Travis Pascoe.

Prep notes

New streak for Stags

The fine folks at Lind recently took us to task for reminding the world about the school’s (now former) losing streak in boys basketball.

We would be remiss, therefore, not to congratulate the Deer Park boys on ending their 25-game losing streak. The Stags defeated Springdale 65-54 on Dec. 9.

DP had last won Jan. 30, 1996, at Colfax.

Hoping for calm without Prazak

Curlew’s Erich Prazak is expected to miss five weeks after separating a shoulder last week against Columbia.

Prazak is averaging 16.2 points and 8.2 rebounds per game.
