Thelma ‘Bea’ Harris Colville, Wash.

Service for Thelma ‘Bea’ Harris, 91, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Danekas Funeral Chapel in Colville. Burial will follow at Mountain View Park Cemetery in Colville.

Mrs. Harris, who was born in Asotin, Wash., died Tuesday.

She worked in logging camps as a cook and also worked for various farms and as a waitress.

Mrs. Harris moved in 1943 to Colville, where she worked for a Safeway store. She also worked at the shipyards during World War II and returned to Colville.

She began working for the Evans Mill and later for the former Valley View Hospital in Colville until her retirement in 1971.

In 1975 she married Ed Harris in Colville.

Mrs. Harris was a member of the Colville Senior Citizens Club, Rebekah Lodge and the Stevens County Retired Employees.

Her husband died in March of this year.

She is survived by a son, Ken Ramble of Colville; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Lucille Morris Spokane

Memorial service for Lucille Morris, 83, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the family home. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Morris, who was born in San Jon, N.M., died Sunday.

She was a homemaker and lived in Spokane for 50 years.

Her husband of 53 years, Stan Morris, died in 1995.

She is survived by two sons, Steven Morris of Spokane and Roger Morris of Wasilla, Alaska; two daughters, Alda Morris and Sally Rowlett, both of Spokane; a sister, Frances Prentice of Tucumcari, N.M.; and five grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Habitat for Humanity.

Marie Benzie Spokane

Funeral Mass for Marie K. Benzie, 71, is set for 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Benzie, who was born in Anaconda, Mont., died Saturday.

She moved to Spokane in 1963 and was a homemaker.

Mrs. Benzie was a member of St. Patrick’s parish.

Her husband, John, preceded her in death.

She is survived by two sons, John and Kenneth Benzie, both of Spokane; a sister, Rosella Hudlemeyer of Spokane; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Lewis Porter Deer Park

Visitation for Lewis B. Porter, 79, will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Heritage Funeral Home. Service is planned for 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mr. Porter, who was born in Wilbur, Wash., died Wednesday.

He graduated in 1937 from Cheney High School and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.

Mr. Porter worked as a dairyman since 1949 and moved to Deer Park in 1952.

He was a member of the Grange since 1934 and a national member since 1954.

Mr. Porter was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Inland Empire Diary Association, Mayflower Farms of Portland, Dairy Herd Improvement Association, Northwest Dairymen’s Association, Soil Conservation District, Federal Land Bank, Deer Park Fair Board, Four Lakes School District and a longtime supporter of the 4-H program where he acted as a leader from 1955 until 1970.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Frances; two sons, Lawrence Porter of Deer Park and Vern Porter of Spokane; and four grandchildren.

Jerry Compton Spokane

Memorial service for Jerry L. Compton, 58, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Calvary Chapel. A reception will follow from 1 to 4 p.m. at Swackhammer’s Restaurant. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Compton, who was born in Joplin, Mo., died Saturday.

He worked for Washington Water Power as a supervisor of linemen for more than 30 years.

He is survived by his wife Ruth; a son, Brad Compton of Coeur d’Alene; a daughter, Amy Barry of Spokane; and five grandchildren.

Ruth Hintz Spokane

Service for Ruth A. Hintz, 93, is set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Riplinger Funeral Home. Private burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mrs. Hintz, an 85-year Spokane resident, died Wednesday.

She graduated from Mead High School and lived on Peone Prairie for several years.

Mrs. Hintz was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Peone Grange and the Peone Homemakers Club.

Her husband, Royden Hintz, died in 1979.

She is survived by a daughter, Lorraine Olson of Deer Park; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Kenneth Olsen Lewiston

Service for Kenneth Harold Olsen, 77, is pending. Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home in Lewiston was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Olsen, who was born to Swedish immigrants in Sinai, S.D., died Dec. 9.

He lived in Clayton, Wash., as a child and later moved to Spokane.

Mr. Olsen married Dorothy Mae Cridlebaugh in Spokane in 1946 and they settled in Clayton, where they lived for several years.

He was a member of the Free Methodist Church in Chewelah, Wash.

His wife died in 1967 and he returned to Spokane.

Mr. Olsen moved to Lewiston five years ago.

Survivors include two daughters, Caryann Olsen of Spokane and Anita Olsen-Berg of Nine Mile Falls, Wash.; a brother, Odin Olsen of Seattle; two sisters, Edna Olsen of Atlanta, Ga., and Ruth Reiter of Deer Park; a granddaughter and one great-grandson.

Pauline Gute Oldtown, Idaho

Service for Pauline Gute, 88, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Free Methodist Church in Priest River, Idaho. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Gute, who died Monday, was born in Elk, Wash.

She moved from the Deer Creek and Chattaroy area to the Newport, Wash., and Oldtown, Idaho area in 1922.

In 1929 she married Ernest Gute on the family farm near Oldtown.

They made their home on the family farm and they moved to Seattle in the 1960’s for ten years.

Mrs. Gute, while in Seattle, graduated from Edison Technical School as a licensed practical nurse.

She worked at the Swedish Hospital in Seattle until her retirement in 1970. They then moved back to the family farm.

Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Ardyce Cranston and Mary Langland, both of Shoreline, Wash., and Irene Kier of Astoria, Ore.; a son, Leonard Gute of Wenatchee; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Priest River Free Methodist Church.

Stanley Wendt Spokane

Memorial service for Stanley R. Wendt, 76, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Private inurnment was held.

Mr. Wendt, a lifetime resident of Spokane, died Dec. 10.

He served in the Army during World War II.

Mr. Wendt worked as a postal clerk and was an art collector and dealer.

There are no surviving family members.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Roy Gump Mildred Gump Garfield, Wash.

Service for Roy E. and Mildred E. Gump, will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the Garfield Christian Church. Burial will follow at the Oakesdale (Wash.) Cemetery. Kramer Funeral Home in Palouse, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Gump, 60, was born in Oakesdale. Mrs. Gump, 64, was born in Carthage, S.D. Both died Sunday from injuries suffered in an automobile accident near their home north of Garfield.

Mr. Gump moved to Garfield in 1943 and graduated from high school there in 1955.

He worked for Union Pacific Railroad for a short time and for a fertilizer company in Whitman county for a few years.

In 1980, Mr. and Mrs. Gump married in Spokane. He worked for Darigold for several years and she was a homemaker.

They moved in 1981 to South Dakota for two years and returned to Garfield in 1983.

Mr. and Mrs. Gump were distributors for Mildred’s Alpena Beef Jerky and delivered it to many taverns throughout the area. They retired in 1994.

They were members of the Eagles Lodge at St. Maries. Mr. Gump was a member of the Moose Lodge 161 in Spokane, the American Legion 110 in Lacey, Wash., and the Lions Club. Mrs. Gump was a member of the Ladies of the Moose in Spokane.

Survivors include his daughter, Stacey Johnson of Spokane; his brother, Garold Gump of Garfield; two grandchildren; 12 stepgrandchildren and nine stepgreat-grandchildren; her five sons, Ralph Stevens of Rockford, Miles Stevens and Phillip Utke, both of Coeur d’Alene, Stanley Stevens and Calvin Utke, both of Spokane; her two daughters, Bonnie McGee of Cleveland and Tina Plummer of Spokane; her three brothers, Ralph Jones of California, Russell Jones of Barstow, Calif., and Calvin Jones of San Francisco; her two sisters, Alice and Doris Stevens, both of Carthage, S.D.; 12 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Hollis Storment Four Lakes

Visitation for Hollis J. Storment, 94, will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at Cheney Funeral Chapel. Service is planned for 1:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Marshal Cemetery in Cheney.

Born in Colfax, Wash., Mr. Storment died Tuesday.

He lived on and managed the family farm in Winona, Wash.

In 1940 he and his wife, Venus, were married in Lewiston. They lived on the family farm until moving to Spokane in 1962.

Mr. Storment moved to Four Lakes in 1966.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Glenn Storment of Kent, Wash., and Norman Storment of Four Lakes; two brothers, Myron Storment of Santa Rosa, Calif., and Kenneth Storment of Spokane; and five grandchildren.
