Hamed Stops Kelley

Compiled From Wire Services

Prince Naseem Hamed entered the ring in New York’s Madison Square Garden in a shower of confetti and accompanied by loud music and spotlights. His entrance was nearly as spectacular as his fourth-round victory over Kevin Kelley.

Each man was knocked down three times apiece in a wild fight that ended when Kelley (47-2-2) was counted out at 2:27 of the fourth.

The victory enabled the 23-year-old British-born Arab to retain the WBO featherweight championship and remain unbeaten in 29 fights with his 27th knockout.

In another title match, Kennedy McKinney (33-3-1) knocked down Junior Jones (44-3) and stopped him in the fourth round to win the WBO super bantamweight championship.

Thulane “Sugar Boy” Malinga (42-10-0) regained the WBC super-middleweight title at age 38 with a unanimous decision over unbeaten defending champion Robin Reid (25-1-1) in London.
