Relax From Holiday Rush With Christmas Program

Parents all over the Valley are rushing around finishing their Christmas shopping, while children are squirming in anticipation of the big day.

While most of us are fully into the holiday spirit, those still in need of a dose of holiday cheer can take the opportunity to attend one of several Christmas programs this weekend.

Busy but ‘Simple Christmas’

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 810 S. Sullivan Road, is planning a number of activities for this week.

The youth of the church will lead the 11 a.m. worship service on Sunday. Each Sunday school class and the Kid’s Choir will participate with songs and prayers.

The churchs choir will perform the cantata “A Simple Christmas” Sunday at 4 p.m. A reception will follow the performance.

Two services will be offered on Christmas Eve. The Kid’s Choir will perform at the family oriented 5 p.m. worship service on Wednesday, and the senior choir will sing at 7 p.m.

Longest Night service

The Veradale United Church of Christ, 611 N. Progress Road, will host a Longest Night worship service at 7:30 p.m. Sunday. The special service is designed for those who have recently lost a loved one.

Refreshments will follow.

The worship service at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday will be led by the Sunday School students. The church will also have a candlelight communion service at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Sunday school students perform

The Sunday School students of Zion Lutheran Church, 8304 E. Buckeye, will present the Christmas musical “‘Angel Head” at the 11 a.m. worship service on Sunday. A reception will follow the service.

Zion Lutheran will also have a candlelight service at 7 p.m. Wednesday, followed by communion service at 9 p.m.

Kids in ‘Candy Cane Lane’

The children of the Valley Assembly of God Church, 15618 E. Broadway, will present their Christmas program, called “Candy Cane Lane,” this weekend. Performances will be at 7 p.m. today and at the 10:30 a.m. worship service on Sunday.

The church will also host a candlelight service at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

‘Shine, Jesus, Shine’

Opportunity Free Methodist Church, 1313 S. Pines, will present the Christmas musical “Shine, Jesus, Shine” performed by the children of the church during the 9 and 10:30 a.m. worship services Sunday.

The church is also planning Christmas Eve worship services at 5 and 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

Choir performs ‘The Gift’

The choir of Foothills Community church, 11102 N. Forker Road, will perform the musical “The Gift” Sunday at 6:30 p.m.

A Christmas Eve worship service will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Christmas 2001’ at Hope

The children of Hope Lutheran Church, 17909 E. Broadway, will present a performance of the play “Christmas 2001” Sunday at the 9 a.m. worship service.

Christmas Eve services

The churches listed below will be having worship services on Christmas Eve, which falls on Wednesday.

Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2511 S. Pines, will hold a family service at 7 p.m. A traditional service will be held at 10 p.m.

Opportunity Presbyterian Church, 202 N. Pines, will have a family worship service at 7 p.m. and a candlelight service at 9 p.m.

Christ Lutheran Church, 13009 E. Broadway, will have a family oriented service at 5:30 p.m. and candlelight services at 7 and 10 p.m.

Opportunity Christian Church, 708 N. Pines, at 7 p.m.

The Spokane Valley Church of the Nazarene, 10814 E. Broadway, at 6:30 p.m.
