Kris Sly’s steal and layin with only seconds remaining lifted West Valley (2-3 overall, 2-1 league) past Lake City (3-3, 2-2) 72-68 in Border League action Friday at West Valley.

Sly and teammate Brad Groh scored consecutive 3-pointers with 1:30 left in the fourth for West Valley to tie the game at 66.

The Eagles played only sophomores and juniors in the win. Junior post Chris Gregg scored a game-high 22 points for the Eagles.

Lake City’s Chad Cheeley put in 19.

Chad Quesnell scored 11 of his 26 points in the second quarter to help put the Trojans (2-3, 1-2) up 41-26 at halftime over the visiting Knights (0-6, 0-3).

Quesnell had three 3-pointers in the game. Eli Thornley added 12 points and eight rebounds for the Trojans.

Mitch Johnson had team-high with 17 points including five 3-pointers for the Knights.

LC made 5 of 13 3-pointers and got clutch free throws from Tyrees Donastorg and Eric Avery to rally past Mead 43-40 in a Greater Spokane League boys basketball game Friday night.

The Tigers (4-1, 3-0) connected on only 10 of 39 shots from 2-point range but knocked down 5 of 13 3’s for the win at Mead. The Panthers were 0-8 from behind the arc.
