Lawmakers May Settle Degree Issue

Associated Press

Legislation is in the works to clear up questions about the legal authority for Eastern Idaho Technical College to grant associate of applied science degrees.

Republican state Rep. Lee Gagner of Idaho Falls also wants to make it easier for students to transfer credits from the school to Idaho’s other publicly funded colleges and universities.

State Board of Education officials recently discovered state law does not say Eastern Idaho Technical College can offer two-year vocational degrees. Board of Education members and Miles LaRowe, the college’s director, said associate degrees that have been granted by the school in the past are valid.
