Mount Spokane has the spirit

I would like to comment on Dave Trimmer’s “Wildcats push Panthers, but lose” article (Dec. 13). Thanks for putting the Wildcats in the headlines, Dave, but to open with four negative lines really wasn’t called for.

Mount Spokane really IS a basketball school! The student who wandered across the court as a team prepared to inbound the ball was not even a Mount Spokane student; there were students on the floor during the halftime performance, but that happens quite often at any game; and since when are all the cheers, done by a lot of very excited fans, always perfectly done and on time? Mount Spokane, by the way, also has junior fans along with the sophomores and freshmen, and they ALL had enough spirit Friday night to blow the others away!

Mount Spokane’s beautiful gym was packed with Wildcats fans and the school spirit was tremendous. School spirit is what keeps a school alive, and if the opening basketball game was any indication, Mount Spokane will have success in the GSL its first year in sports. The boys basketball team IS ready to compete in the GSL and proved that the first night out. Janet Stumph Spokane

Wildcats students object to article

We are writing regarding your article in (the Dec. 13) paper. We are students at Mount Spokane and are very offended by the article on the Mead vs. Mount Spokane boys varsity game on Friday night (Dec. 12).

We would just like to inform you that unlike Mead, we do not have seniors, and in case you failed to notice, all of Mead’s starters were seniors.

We had three juniors and two sophomores.

Sure, we may need to learn a little, but we don’t need you to tell us. You can’t expect a newborn to hold his head up. So give us a break.

We had more school spirit than Mead, more people than Mead, and we were louder than Mead. And you think our cheering was off? Yeah, right!

We just think you need to get past the fact we are a new school, and look how good our players are, and how good we’re going to be. Tamara James, Emilie Kernkamp, Jadie Pike, Katherine Janney Spokane

Barkley has reason for his stand

I’m so sick of hearing about Charles Barkley’s suggestions of a boycott regarding the Latrell Sprewell incident.

It’s obvious that Charles (the poster boy for non-violence) Barkley would like to see Sprewell get away with murder to justify all his past shenanigans and run-ins with authorities (e.g. throwing 125-pound guys through plate-glass windows). I wonder why he doesn’t try someone like Anthony Mason or Charles Oakley. I’m sure it would be a little different.

Houston found it necessary to put a security guard on Barkley to protect the public while Sir Pea Brain thinks it was to protect him.

When will these prima donnas, who are utterly overpaid, realize you don’t put your hands on the boss? Gary Peterson Spokane

Hey, Vols fans: Shut up!

To Tennessee fans upset about Peyton Manning not getting the Heisman trophy: QUIT COMPLAINING!

The best college football player in the country is supposed to get the trophy, not the player who got the most publicity. Charles Woodson had a season for the ages and he deserved what he got.

He was unbelievable on offense, defense and special teams, while Manning had a few games in which I found myself wondering what all the hype was about.

Here in Pullman, there was another deserving candidate who did not emerge victorious, yet you don’t hear the Cougar fans complaining. As for the Tennessee fans, I just hope they show a little more class when it comes to losing in the future … like Jan. 2. Ian Cope Pullman

Dickson failed Communication 101

Washington State athletic director Rick Dickson should be spending more time in a Marketing 101 class and less time job hunting during a key window of opportunity for WSU athletics and the university.

Dickson has managed to miss an opportunity to build on a base of loyal Cougars followers and turned a windfall into a fiasco. Dickson’s failure to communicate quickly with season-ticket holders and Cougar Club members is inexcusable! Better keep that TCU athletic department number handy Rick. Rick Robinson Liberty Lake
