Macculloch Keys Huskies’ Sixth Win

Todd MacCulloch scored seven of his 29 points during an early second-half run Saturday night at Seattle as Washington took command on the way to an 86-68 victory over Old Dominion.

The Huskies outscored the Monarchs 12-6 during the first 3:15 of the second half to take a 14-point lead, and led by at least nine the rest of the way.

MacCulloch, who led the nation in field-goal percentage last year, hit 12 of 15 shots and had eight rebounds and two blocks in 27 minutes.

Donald Watts scored 15 points and Deon Luton 10 for Washington (6-1).

Skipper Youngblood scored 14 points for Old Dominion (3-6), while Cal Bowdler and Curtis Pass added 12 apiece.

At Portland, Michael Doleac scored 21 points as the Utes (10-0) defeated the Beavers (6-2) in the Ford Holiday Classic.

The Utes, off to their best start in 33 years, fell behind 18-4 and never led by more than 10 points.

At Los Angeles, J.R. Henderson scored 19 points and the Bruins (6-1) made 12 of 16 free throws over the final 6:12 to hold off Saint Louis (8-1), snapping the Billikens’ eight-game winning streak.

The Bruins won their sixth straight game after trailing by seven points early in the second half and watching the Billikens get within two with 2:41 remaining on a dunk by Larry Hughes.

Hughes, the nation’s second-highest-scoring freshman with a 22-point average, scored 14 points before fouling out with 42 seconds left.

Virgel Cobbin had 17 points for the Billikens, who are winless in the seven-game series with UCLA.

Ohio St. 79, USC 73

At Columbus, Ohio, Michael Redd scored 30 points and the Buckeyes (6-3) - making barely half of their foul shots on the year - hit 11 of their last 12 free throws in a victory over the Trojans (4-3).

At Cedar City, Utah, Ryan Dick scored 14 points and J.R. Camel chipped in 13 more to lead the Grizzlies (5-6) over the Thunderbirds (1-8).

Weber St. 77, Seattle Pacific 65

At Ogden, Utah, Jake Shoff scored 15 points and Eric Ketcham added 13 and a game-high 11 rebounds to lead the Wildcats (2-6) past the Division II Falcons (5-5).

New Mexico St. 60, Wyoming 40

At Las Cruces, N.M., point guard Donminic Ellison scored 19 points and the Aggies’ defense virtually shut down the Cowboys’ offense. Wyoming is 6-2; New Mexico State 6-3.

At Little Rock, Ark., Chuck Thrash scored 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Eagles (1-7) over the Trojans (4-4).

USF 71, Santa Barbara 60

At San Francisco, Hakeem Ward scored 20 points and had a career-high 15 rebounds to lead the San Francisco Dons (7-2) past the Gauchos (2-5).

Utah St. 100, Long Island 84

At Logan, Utah, a career-high 20 points and 20 rebounds from junior center Donnie Johnson led the Aggies (5-3) over the Blackbirds (4-6).

CS Fullerton 72, Portland 61

At Fullerton, Calif., Ike Harmon scored 17 points and Matt Caldwell came off the bench to add 16 as the Titans (5-3) rallied for a win over the Pilots (6-4).

Nevada 70, Baylor 57

At Reno, Nev., Paul Culbertson scored 19 points and the Wolf Pack (4-2) built an 18-point first-half lead, then held off the Bears (4-5) in the second half.

Pepperdine 65, Boise St. 61

At Malibu, Calif., Bryan Hill had 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Waves (6-4) over the Broncos (6-2).

St. Francis 92, L. Beach St. 83 (OT)

At Long Beach, Calif., Angel Santana led St. Francis with 24 points, and the Terriers (5-3) took control in overtime to down the 49ers (3-5).
