Patty Duke Reprising Roles From ‘60s TV Show

Patty Duke, Coeur d’Alene’s most famous resident, has a new project, one that you will hardly even believe: a “Patty Duke Show” reunion.

Yes, she will reprise her roles as the identical cousins Patty and Cathy. The show ran from 1963 to 1966.

The revival will shoot in May or June, with a possible November airing on CBS.

Meanwhile, don’t forget to catch Duke tonight at 9 on CBS in the revival of Truman Capote’s”A Christmas Memory.”

Advance reviews for this gentle Christmas story have been stellar. The Hollywood Reporter even predicts that it will become a yearly Christmas tradition.

‘Downtown Spokane Images’

I have found the perfect Christmas present for anybody on your list who has fond memories of Spokane 50 and 60 years ago.

Carolyn Hage Nunemaker, a former Spokane schoolteacher, has just published a paperback volume called “Downtown Spokane Images, 1930-1949.”

This is a marvelous book, loaded with dozens of photos of downtown landmarks such as the Post Street Theater, the Davenport Hotel, the Spokane Hotel and even, to really bring back memories, Bob’s Chili Parlour.

Nunemaker’s text intersperses hard facts with personal reminiscences. Look for it at Auntie’s Bookstore and other local bookstores.

Christmas on the radio

Somehow, listening to “Tubthumping” for the 800th time doesn’t seem quite right this time of year.

Fortunately a number of local radio stations will provide Christmas music and holiday specials in the next week. Here’s a look at some of them:

KPBX-FM, 91.1- Today at 11 a.m, the Whitworth College Choir’s Annual Christmas Concert.

Today at 4 p.m., “The Magi’s Gift,” a special reading of O. Henry’s “The Gift of the Magi,” followed by “Della’s Story,” written by Spokane author Michael Aleman.

Monday at 7 p.m., The Gonzaga University Candlelight Christmas Concert.

Wednesday at noon, “Chanukah Lights,” readings by Susan Stamberg and Murray Horvitz for the Hanukkah season.

Wednesday at 7 p.m., “Christmas from Spokane,” a collection of recent holiday concerts, until midnight.

KDRK-FM, 93.7 - All Christmas music, from noon on Christmas Eve through noon Christmas Day, followed by Bob Kinsley’s “Christmas in America” from noon until 4 p.m.

Another Christmas special

Speaking of Christmas specials, KPBX-FM is also airing a special version of “This American Life” on Tuesday at noon, featuring holiday stories from David Sedaris’ new book, “Holidays on Ice.”

Spokane’s Julia Sweeney will be one of celebrity readers.

A KKZX-FM good deed

KKZX-FM wraps up its Christmas for Kids fund drive today with a live remote broadcast from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery.

Shel Bailey will be on the air. She will be accepting donations to the nursery, a worthy institution which is sometimes overlooked in the holiday charity frenzy.

A huge success

The “Tuna Christmas” juggernaut keeps on rolling at the Interplayers Ensemble.

Another extra show has been added, tonight at 7. This is the second show added due to high demand.

“It feels like we could run it forever, or the next six months at least,” said director Joan Welch. “Every time we hang up the phone, it rings again.”

Unfortunately, the schedule will not allow any more extensions. Tonight’s show will probably be the last.
