Swede Wins Slalom

Sweden’s Ylva Nowen earned her first World Cup victory in the slalom at Val d’Isere, Frabce.

Nowen took advantage of deteriorating weather conditions to win, jumping from 14th place after the first run to win in 1 minute, 32.33 seconds.

Deborah Compagnoni of Italy, winner of Friday’s giant slalom, finished second at 1:32.42, and Urska Hrovat of Slovenia was third at 1:32.81.

Bad weather again kept the male World Cup skiers off the slopes as fog and light rain wiped out plans for holding two downhill races at Val Gardena, Italy.

The latest setback brought to five the number of World Cup speed races lost to the weather this season.

One of the races was rescheduled for Bormio, Italy, on Dec. 30, the day after a previously scheduled downhill at that ski resort.

The other postponed downhill will be added to the World Cup program at Wengen, Switzerland, in January.
