Cda Gang Member Sought In Slaying 12-Year-Old Calls 911 After Man Is Gunned Down At Valley Apartment

A suspected Coeur d’Alene gang member is being sought in the shooting death of a man at a Spokane Valley apartment, sheriff’s deputies said Tuesday.

Law enforcement authorities from Washington and Idaho continued late Tuesday to search for a man they identified as 19-year-old Christopher Clay Gober, who also uses the name Christopher Earl Harriman.

Authorities would not say why they consider Gober a suspect in the killing of the unidentified 20-year-old man at the Manor Vale Apartments, 10101 E. Main.

The man was found shot in the head after a 12-year-old boy made a 911 call reporting the shooting at 1:47 p.m. Tuesday, deputies said.

Another suspect, believed to be the gunman, was not identified because investigators fear he will flee, Sheriff’s Deputy Dave Reagan said.

The boy told deputies that three men walked up to the apartment and knocked on the door. When the victim answered, he was shot point blank with a shotgun, deputies said. There was at least one other man in the apartment at the time.

“I came out and heard a ‘pow’ and saw a guy running fast,” the boy told a reporter.

“I saw a guy hop in a car with a gun. The guy dropped his wallet.”

Other witnesses said the gunman ran from the apartment complex and got into a dark blue or gray Ford Taurus or Tempo with Idaho license plates.

All Eastern Washington and North Idaho law enforcement agencies have been put on alert to find Gober, whose name is familiar to Idaho law enforcement officials.

Gober, a professed gang member, was jailed for a drive-by shooting in Coeur d’Alene in April when he fired a gun at two men after an argument. Police said he admitted firing the gun.

A third man was questioned by police and released.

There were no leads on the location of Gober or the unidentified suspect late Tuesday.

Neighbors said they’ve long questioned the constant activity in the apartment unit, saying people go in and out all the time.

“I’m constantly seeing cops,” said neighbor Juli Baublitz. “It scares me.”

A man from the apartment complex next door waited Tuesday to learn if the shotgun used in the killing was his.

The neighbor said his shotgun was stolen Sunday from his car, which was parked in front of the complex. He told detectives it was a 12-gauge, 870 Wingmaster Remington pump.

The murder weapon was not recovered.

Detectives have no motive in the shooting and don’t know if the suspects knew the victim.
