Sfcc Names Johns As New President

From Staff Reports

Ron Johns, vice president of instruction at Spokane Falls Community College, has been named president effective Jan. 1.

Johns will hold the $98,000-peryear job until a permanent replacement for Vern Loland is hired. At that time, Johns, a 34-year veteran of Spokane Falls, plans to retire.

Loland is leaving the college on West Fort Wright Drive to become president of San Antonio Community College in Texas.

Johns came to Spokane Falls in 1963 as a chemistry teacher. He later was named dean of instruction and became acting president in 1988 when Phyllis Everest retired. Loland was hired at that time.

Spokane Falls will search for a new president after the Community Colleges of Spokane District 17 replaces its chief executive officer, Terry Brown. Brown plans to retire July 1, 1998, and a search has begun to replace him.
