Wwp Pilot Program Planned In Two Towns

From Staff And Wire Reports

Washington Water Power Co. has proposed a 2-year pilot program of energy service alternatives that would affect nearly 8,000 commercial and residential customers in Eastern Washington and North Idaho.

The MOPS II (More Options for Power Service) program would allow about 2,250 customers in Deer Park and another 5,570 residential, commercial and agricultural customers in Hayden Lake to choose energy service alternatives.

The company is proposing four alternatives to its traditional service, including service based on month-to-month or year-to-year market prices, a fixed amount based on the Bonneville Power Administration’s preference rate, and a “green resource” rate that would allow customers to pay an incremental amount on their monthly bill toward development and operation of renewable resources, such as wind power, or increased output at the WWP woodwaste-to-energy facility at Kettle Falls.

The Idaho Public Utilities Commission has set a Jan. 14 deadline for public comment.
