Dollar Turns Mixed In Quiet Trading

The dollar was mixed against other major currencies Wednesday in quiet pre-Christmas trading, rising vs. the Japanese yen despite fears of possible intervention by Japan’s central bank.

The U.S. currency slipped against the German mark as traders balanced their holdings to protect against any volatility today, when Tokyo will be the only major currency market open.

“They’re drifting around, but without any volume behind them,” said Kevin Harris, an international economist at MCM Currencywatch.
