Police Arrest Motorist On Warrant, Seize Van

Spokane police stopped a van at Fifth Avenue and Grant last Wednesday and found that the driver was wanted on a warrant, said Spokane Police spokesman Dick Cottam.

Officers also found a few other things inside the vehicle: a blond wig, a knife, registration and title to another vehicle, and six bullets.

Police arrested Christopher William Hynes, 19, who gave his address as 12807 E. Sprague.

Officers said the van was displaying license plates registered to another vehicle and had another plate from Idaho inside.

Hynes was cited for the warrant and driving with a suspended license. The van was impounded.

Four trombones playing…

Garage burglaries are a common occurrence on the South Side, but this time of year the target is usually snow blowers or skis.

However, a South Side resident near Browne Mountain reported last Thursday that thieves had forced their way into his garage and stolen four trombones valued at $2,000, Spokane County Sheriff’s spokesman Dave Reagan said.

The instruments were in their cases.

Also missing were four American Racing custom wheels and Cooper Cobra tires valued at $700.

Drug-free bike camps planned

The first of a series of DARE cycling camps is scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday at Centennial Middle School.

The program is directed at children from 10 to 18 years old and should last about two hours. Spokane County Sheriff’s deputies and teachers from the Spokane area will host.

DARE spokesman Scott Szoke said the aim of the camp is to teach children about sports while promoting a drug-free lifestyle.

There is no cost to attend, but participants will be required to sign a liability waiver prior to joining in.
