Sex Offender Moves Downtown

A Level III sex offender is now living in downtown Spokane, police said.

Lawrence L. Gaines, 42, has just been released from prison after serving time for raping three women and robbery. He also has been convicted of harassment, assault, carrying a concealed weapon, forgery and other crimes, police said.

Gaines is considered at high risk to reoffend and is known to approach his victims and make small talk before leading them to a place where he assaults them, police said. He currently has a curfew of 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

He is described as black, 5 feet 11 inches tall, 206 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. He has an artificial right leg.
