Cougar Nation. It’s here and it’s big. Books about Washington State University’s championship football season are selling as fast as they are printed. Cougar T-shirts, sweat shirts, hats and jackets are everywhere.
Here at The Spokesman-Review, dozens of photographers, reporters and editors, many of them on-site in Pasadena, Calif., are handling our Rose Bowl coverage.
In addition to live coverage every day from our staff in Pasadena, this is our Rose Bowl special schedule:
Today in the Sports section, we walk back through the lives of three Cougar players. They come from different backgrounds and different parts of the country. They have one thing in common - the Rose Bowl.
Friday, Marcia Leaf describes life raising Ryan. What does a parent do with a son who has a mountain of talent and an ego to match? In the end, Ryan’s gift to his parents and friends is revealed.
Beginning Saturday and continuing for five days, our Sports section will include two full pages explaining the keys to the game. They will include graphic presentations of crucial matchups and color posters of Cougar players.
Also Saturday, we’ll give you a behind-the-scenes look at the life of a coach’s wife in a profile of Joyce Price.
On Sunday, the IN Life section will offer a Rose Bowl viewing and entertainment guide. It will include a map of the Tournament of Roses parade route and will note the positions of the WSU band and other local points of interest. Coverage plans of other local media and a roundup of events and sports bars will be listed.
On game day Jan. 1, we will devote a special section to the Rose Bowl. Complete rosters and starting lineups of the teams will be combined with analysis and scorecard information. We also will describe both teams’ roads to Pasadena and the key plays that got them there.
On Jan. 2, the newspaper will provide coverage of New Year’s Day events in Pasadena, starting with the parade and finishing with a wrap-up of the big game.
If this isn’t enough, you can always go online and get more. At www.virtuallynw.com you can see Cougar coverage from throughout the season as well as a link to Michiganlive.com that puts you right in the Wolverines’ den.
