Sprinkler System Douses Trash Fire

A Spokane Industrial Park fire came within 20 feet of 300 gallons of flammable liquid Sunday night, but was extinguished by an indoor sprinkler system.

The waste fire was Apollo Plastic Inc.’s second this year, Valley Fire officials said. In May, waste loaded on a truck bed caught on fire inside the plant, located at 3808 N. Sullivan. At 9:30 p.m. Sunday, a 4-foot-square box of sawdust, rags, cans and other production waste in the plant went up in flames.

Fire investigators have not determined the cause.

The fire started just 20 feet from several barrels of flammable stain, Fire officials said. The indoor sprinkler system caught the fire early, putting it out before firefighters arrived.

The business suffered minor water damage. , DataTimes
