Man Killed When He Opens Door 46-Year-Old Yakima Man Shot Up To Five Times; Teen Arrested As Material Witness

Associated Press

Police are looking for leads in the death of a 46-year-old man who was shot as he opened the front door of his rental home.

Jose M. Alcaraz was struck up to five times in the face and chest with bullets fired from a large-caliber rifle, Yakima police Lt. Jeff Schneider said.

No suspects have been identified and a motive for the killing is unknown.

Angelica Snow, 18, was arrested as a material witness to Tuesday’s shooting as well as on two outstanding warrants. She was charged Wednesday in Yakima County Superior Court with bail jumping and failing to appear on a previous drug charge.

Judge Heather Van Nuys released Snow on her own recognizance as a material witness but set bail at $25,000 for the two unrelated charges.

Snow was inside the home when the shooting occurred but was not injured, police said. She gave a false name when first questioned by police and also said she knew nothing about the shooting.

Snow later told police she does live at the home and is two months’ pregnant with Alcaraz’s child, according to court records.

Schneider said Alcaraz had moved to Yakima from Southern California about six months ago. He had no local criminal record.

“A homicide case like this is very difficult because of the total lack of information,” Schneider said.
