K-9 Cop Finds Burglary Suspects

Compiled From Wire Services

A police dog sniffed out two burglary suspects who were hiding in a trash compactor at a downtown restaurant Friday, Spokane police said.

Officers found a door forced open when they were sent to Frankie Doodle’s, 30 E. Third, about 1:40 a.m. to investigate a possible burglary.

They called for a K-9 unit to check the business for prowlers, and the dog “alerted” on a chute leading to the compactor, police spokesman Dick Cottam said.

Officers shouted four times for anyone in the compactor to come out, Cottam said. When there was no reply, they turned the dog loose.

The canine flushed out 21-year-old Christopher Trevino, who was hiding under a pile of garbage, Cottam said. A few minutes later, 20-year-old Seth Thomas Blair emerged from the trash and surrendered.

Both were booked into the Spokane County Jail on suspicion of second-degree burglary.
