U.S. Rolls Over Kazakhstan Farkas’ Two Goals, Two Assists Help United States Even Record
Jeff Farkas scored twice and had two assists, helping the United States defeat Kazakhstan 8-2 in the World Junior Hockey Championships on Friday.
Brian Gionta scored the first two U.S. goals, on assists from Farkas, who made it 4-1 on a power play goal and 6-2 on a short-handed goal in the third period.
Defending champion Canada lost its second consecutive game, 4-0 to Sweden, as goaltender Johan Holmqvist made 22 saves for the shutout.
In other games, Finland defeated Germany 5-0 and Switzerland downed Slovakia 3-1.
Finland leads Group A with a 2-0 record. The Czech Republic is 1-0, Sweden 1-1, Germany 0-1 and Canada 0-2.
In Group B, Russia and Switzerland are 1-0, Team USA and Slovakia are 1-1 and Kazakhstan is 0-2.
