A Jolly Good Show

Windsor Castle opened its doors to the public Saturday for the first time since the completion of a $62 million restoration of state rooms gutted by fire five years ago. Visitors gave the work a splendid review. The renovation was finished in November, ahead of schedule and about $5 million under budget. The fire, which was started by a curtain resting on a high-intensity spotlight, capped a troubling time for Britain’s royals that also saw the collapse of the marriages of the queen’s sons, Prince Charles and Prince Andrew, and the death of Princess Diana.
