Paluck Carries Liberty Bell

High school basketball

Jennifer Paluck makes Liberty Bell tough to crack.

Paluck totaled 38 points, 13 rebounds and 10 steals Saturday as the visiting Liberty Bell Mountain Lions (8-0) defeated St. George’s 72-58 in a non-league girls basketball game.

Paluck made 15 of 29 shots from the field and 7 of 11 from the line.

Liberty Bell is a Class 1A school in Twisp.

Miranda Routh-Corker finished with 25 points and eight steals, and Wenchi Liu added nine assists for the Class B Dragons (6-2).

Julia Vojtech, Nikki Petticrew and Brianne Jolley combined for 29 rebounds to guide the Eagles over the visiting Dolphins in an exhibition at Nine Mile Falls.

Petticrew added five assists, and she and Janet Long had six steals apiece. Jolley and Heebink shot a combined 15 of 27 from the field. Karen Haddad scored 18 for the Australians, making the first stop on a tour that will take them to Newport on Monday.

Brenda Stevens hit a 15-footer with 26 seconds left, and the current Cougars missed two shots under the basket in the last 5 seconds during the exhibition.

Both teams shot less than 30 percent. Stephanie Brown had six assists for the current Cougars.

The visiting Mountain Lions sank 9 of 11 free throws and held the Dragons (6-2) to 31 percent shooting from the field to earn the non-league win.

St. George’s totaled 19 turnovers and shot 8 of 14 from the line. Dan Dhillon had three rebounds and two assists for the Dragons.
