Folkl Returns

Kristin Folkl returned to basketball from Stanford’s NCAA champion volleyball team Sunday and led the No. 17 Cardinal to an 87-73 victory over No. 18 Colorado at Stanford, Calif.

Folkl had 16 points and eight rebounds in her season debut. The Cardinal (3-4) was led by Olympia Scott, who had 33 points and nine rebounds.

Colorado (6-2), which had won three straight games, was led by La Shena Graham with 29 points.

Folkl entered the game about five minutes into the first half, with the Cardinal trailing 11-7. Stanford responded with a 17-5 run to take 24-16 lead at 7:19. Folkl scored nine points during the stretch.

At Champaign, Ill., Ashley Berggren scored 25 points, including the game-winning shot with two seconds left, as the Illini (6-4, 1-0 Big Ten) recovered from a 13-point deficit to defeat the Boilermakers (7-4, 0-1).

Mackenzie Curless led Purdue with 18 points.
