Kemp Takes On Gore On Global Warming

Compiled From Wire Services

Should Jack Kemp be the Republican presidential nominee against Democratic Vice President Al Gore in 2000, he has one issue primed and ready: global warming.

“I frankly am going to take him head-on on this issue and tell the American people the truth that they are not the cause of the warming of the Earth,” Kemp said on “Fox News Sunday.”

“If it was so important to Al Gore, why did he suggest that we’re not going to meet any standards until after he is projected even in his wildest dreams to leave office in 2008?”

The delay is a part of the recent international agreement reached in Kyoto, Japan, to reduce greenhouse gases blamed for global warming.

Gore, noted for his environmental work, headed the U.S. delegation. Kemp, the unsuccessful GOP vice presidential nominee in 1996, questioned Sunday whether the agreement even is needed.
