Swiss Victory Puts U.S. In World Junior Quarterfinals

Switzerland beat Kazakstan 7-0 Monday in the World Junior Hockey Championships, securing Team USA a place in the quarterfinals.

In another game, Sweden defeated Germany 8-0.

In group A, Finland has a 3-0 record, with the Czech Republic 2-1, Sweden 2-2, Canada 1-2 and Germany 0-3. Russia and Switzerland are tied atop Group B with 2-1-0 records. Slovakia and Team USA are 1-0-2 and Kazakstan 1-0-3.

Final games in group play are today, when Team USA meets Switzerland. The quarterfinals start Wednesday. Canada is the five-time defending champion. The U.S. was runner-up last year.
