Mayor Wants To Show Teens Evils Of Drink

Associated Press

Bogota’s mayor has an idea for teens who don’t know how to drink moderately and responsibly - teach them how in class field trips to bars.

Mayor Antanus Mockus’ hands-on alcohol-education proposal has met a surprisingly positive reception from parents and alcohol rehabilitation groups in Bogota.

Taking 11th and 12th graders to pubs during health classes would let them learn how to drink with restraint, and see what happens when people don’t, he argues.

“It can be a lot more seductive to only hear alcohol talked about,” Mockus said.

Under teachers’ supervision, students who want to have a drink during a field trip would be permitted to do so.
