Worker Pulled Out Of Corn Silo

Compiled From Wire Services

A silo worker was pulled gasping for air and covered in corn dust after being buried in grain for nearly 20 minutes.

Darryl Kuntz, 32, crawled through a manhole-sized opening in the side of a CongAgra Corn Processing silo on Thursday to loosen grain packed along the interior walls.

The grain suddenly came loose, burying Kuntz, who was not wearing a safety harness or a rope.

“The last time we came out here years ago for the same thing, the guy was dead. He suffocated. That’s probably the worst type of death you can suffer,” said Guy Galley Jr., with the county rescue unit.

Co-workers dug and pulled out Kuntz, who was treated and released from the local hospital. He returned to work later Thursday to finish his shift.
