State High-Tech Workers Earn Highest Pay Average Was $57,555 In 1995

Electronics and computer workers in Washington state had the highest average pay in the nation in 1995 in their job classifications, a study released last week by the American Electronics Association says.

The average pay was $57,555 for Washington high-tech workers, which the AEA report defined as employees in the electronics, computer, software and telecommunications industries.

Washington is home to Microsoft, Boeing and hundreds of other companies that need technologically proficient workers.

New Jersey came in second at $55,970, followed by California, Massachusetts and Idaho.

California had the most high-tech workers in 1995, 669,349, followed by Texas, New York, Massachusetts and Illinois. Washington was far behind with 78,920 workers.

Oregon’s average pay was $46,319 for its 57,339 high-tech workers.

The report is based on Bureau of Labor Statistics figures for the year.
