5 Killed In Stampede At Mosque

Compiled From Wire Services

Crowds of worshipers stampeded at the entrance to a mosque in western Iran, trampling to death five people and injuring 44, the official Islamic Republic News Agency reported Sunday.

Among the dead was a 7-year-old girl, reported the agency, monitored by the British Broadcasting Corp.

The stampede took place Saturday night as people gathered at the entrance to a mosque in Bakhtaran to break their Ramadan fast, IRNA said. Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset during the holy month of Ramadan.
