From Staff And Wire Reports

The U.S. Small Business Administration is opening offices in North Idaho to help victims of the latest natural disaster apply for low-interest federal disaster loans.

SBA offices will be located in Coeur d’Alene, Sandpoint, and Bonners Ferry.

Homeowners, renters and non-farm business are eligible to apply for the loans if their homes or businesses were damaged by the floods or storms since mid-November when the ice storm struck.

Benewah, Bonner, Boundary, Clearwater, Kootenai, Latah and Shoshone counties were among 17 counties in Idaho declared disaster areas as a result of the ice storm, heavy snows and subsequent flooding beginning Nov. 16 and stretching through Jan. 3.

As of Sunday, a total of 1,568 Idaho residents registered for disaster assistance through the Federal Emergency Management Agency, including 326 in Bonner County, 120 in Boundary County, 66 in Kootenai County and 61 in Shoshone County.

The number to register is (800) 462-9029, or (800) 462-7585 for the hearing impaired.

The SBA offices are open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays and are located at the Panhandle Health District services office in Bonners Ferry; Thursdays and Fridays at Wells Fargo Bank, 504 Sherman, in Coeur d’Alene; and Wednesdays only at the Interagency Dispatch Department on Ontario Street in Sandpoint.
