Compagnoni Strikes Gold

Deborah Compagnoni headed a 1-2 Italian finish in women’s slalom in the World Alpine Championships, finishing ahead of teammate Lara Magoni with third going to Karin Roten of Switzerland.

Two prominent racers - Pernilla Wiberg of Sweden and Claudia Riegler of New Zealand - missed second-run gates and were disqualified.

The men’s combined is today, with the downhill in the afternoon followed by two night slalom runs.
