Load Of Food, Drink Stolen From Restaurant

Cops are keeping an eye out for someone buying steak sauce by the gallon.

It’s a good bet that the burglars who hit the Chattaroy Restaurant last Wednesday will need condiments to go with their beefy booty.

The steak sauce could be for the six pounds of sirloin stolen a week ago at the restaurant on Elk-Dennison Road. Or for the 20 pounds of hamburger. Or for the four cases of frozen hamburger patties.

But they might need to pick up some tartar sauce for the eight pounds of halibut steaks they picked up, or some hot mustard for the 45 pounds of sausage.

What to do with the 14 pound ham, or the case of bacon?

The thieves have lots to wash it all down. They made off with a case and a half of tomato juice and five gallons of RC Cola syrup.

They also took two bottles of wine, three cases each of Budweiser and Bud Light beer, two and a half cases each of Red Dog and Miller Lite, and a case each of Icehouse, Coors, Coors Light, Molson, Rainier and Miller.

“Somebody had a hell of a picnic,” said Sheriff’s Dep. Dave Reagan. “It was like they wanted to have a taste test.”

Deputies have found no witnesses, but the getaway vehicle did leave marks on the snow, Reagan said. Sheriff’s deputies believe it may have been a small pick-up truck. The burglars also left a distinctive footprint in the snow. However, investigators have identified no suspects, Reagan said.

Entry was through a door, which had its latch torn off.

The restaurant owner was unavailable for comment. Reagan said the low-ball estimate on the loss was $600.
