New Lenten Study Group Forming

A Lenten study group is forming at Country Homes Christian Church, 8415 N. Wall.

The group, which will cover a series of messages on the theme “the seven habits of spiritually growing people,” will meet for the first time on Sunday at 5:30 p.m. The group will meet at the same time on each Sunday during Lent, which begins on Wednesday.

No advance registration is required and there is no cost to attend.

Also at Country Homes, the last gathering for the Winter Supper Series is on Wednesday. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m., followed by a talk by Grace Ford, a retired chemistry teacher. Ford’s talk will follow the general theme of science and faith and is titled “Matter and Energy: Today and Yesterday.” A special program will be offered for children.

The evening is free, but donations would be welcomed to cover the costs of the dinner. No advance registration is required.

Valentine’s ice cream social

All are invited to attend a free Valentine’s ice cream social after the 11 a.m. worship service on Sunday at North Hill Christian Church, 4620 N. Post.

North Hill also will hold a special worship service at 7 p.m. on Ash Wednesday. The church’s youth choir will perform.

Shrove Tuesday pancake suppers

Three North Side churches will host free pancake suppers on Shrove Tuesday.

St. Peter Lutheran Church will host its annual Shrove Tuesday pancake and sausage dinner at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. All are invited to attend the free dinner. A free will offering will be collected and donated to the Lamb of God Mission at Priest Lake, Idaho.

A worship service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Ash Wednesday at the church, located at 4620 N. Regal. For more information, call the church office at 487-4843.

St. Paul’s United Methodist Church will host a pancake supper on Shrove Tuesday. The free dinner will be served at 5:15 p.m. at the church, located at 1620 N. Monroe. Donations will be accepted to help cover the cost of the meal. For more information, call the church office at 327-9539.

St. Paul Lutheran Church, 2159 N. Hamilton, will host a Shrove Tuesday supper at 6 p.m. The menu of the free dinner will include pancakes, ham, and scrambled eggs. Donations will be accepted.

St. Paul’s will also hold a special worship service at 7 p.m. on Ash Wednesday. In addition, services will be held at 6:45 p.m. each Wednesday during Lent, preceded by a soup supper at 6 p.m.

Soup supper on Ash Wednesday

Members of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 3909 W. Rowan, will worship at 7 p.m. on Ash Wednesday. The special service will be preceded by a free soup supper at 6 p.m. The special service and supper will continue throughout Lent each Wednesday at the same times.

Valentine’s Day banquet

The First Church of the Open Bible, 8303 N. Division, will host a sweetheart banquet at 6:30 p.m. on Valentine’s Day at the church. Tickets are $7.50 per person and can be purchased by calling the church office at 467-5122.
