Cal Breaks Skid At Ucla

Ed Gray scored 29 points and Randy Duck added 17 as California beat UCLA 71-68 Thursday night, snapping the Bruins’ 18-game Pac-10 winning streak at Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles.

Cal won its sixth straight conference game to tie the Bruins for first place, along with Arizona and USC. The Bears had lost 31 consecutive road games against the Bruins.

Toby Bailey missed a jumper with 14 seconds to go and Gray made 1 of 2 free throws to keep Cal ahead 70-66. After UCLA’s Cameron Dollar made a layup with 8 seconds left, Cal’s Prentice McGruder made 1 of 2 at the line. UCLA had a chance to tie with 7 seconds left. Dollar went the length of the court and passed to Bailey, who shot an airball from behind the arc as time expired.

In Los Angeles, Stais Boseman’s 3-pointer with 2:08 left put the Trojans ahead for good against the Cardinal.

Boseman’s shot gave the Trojans a 78-77 lead, and Rodrick Rhodes made a pair of foul shots with 1:27 left to extend the edge to three points.

Arthur Lee made two free throws with 1:09 to play to draw Stanford within one, but Boseman made a foul shot with 50.8 seconds remaining and Gary Johnson made another with 19.3 seconds left to put the Trojans on top 82-79.

Oregon 69, Washington 59

In Eugene, Ore., Kenya Wilkins scored 17 points and had all three of his assists in a decisive run to open the second half as the Ducks overcame early shooting woes to beat the Huskies.

Oregon shot just 36 percent from the field in the first half but still led 30-24.

Oregon opened the second half with a 14-3 run to take a 44-27 lead, its biggest of the game. Jamaal Lawrence scored six of his seven points and Kyle Milling four during the outburst.

Washington never seriously threatened again.

Jamie Booker scored 18 of his 23 points in the second half. He also had eight rebounds and five assists. Donald Watts also scored 18 for Washington, while Mark Sanford added 13 points and nine rebounds.
