Fairchild Medical Unit Honored For Ties To City

The 92nd Medical Group and seven top workers at Fairchild Air Force Base received awards Thursday in a ceremony at the base.

The medical group, which operates the base hospital, was the winner of the Neal Fosseen Award, given to the unit that does the most to foster good relations between Fairchild and the Spokane community.

The award, judged by the Spokane Area Chamber of Commerce Armed Services Committee, is named for Fosseen, Spokane’s first mayor under the current form of government.

Judges look closely at the types and amount of public-service projects and volunteer work performed by members of the units that are nominated, a chamber spokesman said.

Also honored at the annual awards banquet:

Airman of the Year: Senior Airman Christina M. Bucker, an intelligence operations apprentice with the the 92nd Operations Support Squadron.

Noncommissioned Officer of the Year: Staff Sgt. Paul C. Roulaine, a shift supervisor for the 92nd Maintenance Squadron.

Senior Noncommissioned Officer of the Year: Master Sgt. Virginia S. Long, a superintendent with the 92nd Supply Squadron.

First Sergeant of the Year: Master Sgt. Maureen L. Powell, the liaison between the commanding officer and enlisted personnel for the 92nd Transportation Squadron.

Company Grade Officer of the Year: Capt. Sherry A. Brown, commander of an operations unit for the 92nd Civil Engineer Squadron.

Non-supervisory Civilian of the Year: Barbara M. Barton, a resource adviser with the 92nd Medical Support Squadron.

Supervisory Civilian of the Year: David E. Olson, chief of a construction unit for the 92nd Contracting Squadron.

The winners of the individual awards were selected from quarterly winners in each category.
