Bill Again Seeks Charter Schools

From Staff And Wire Reports

Rep. Fred Tilman, R-Boise, who has been trying to get charter schools approved for years, is trying again this session.

At his request, the House Education Committee voted Monday to introduce a proposal that would set up a study committee on future charter school legislation.

If funding is available, a House-Senate committee will consider the issue when the Legislature is not in session, Tilman said. “They will see if there is something we can pass, or we should just put it on the back burner and forget about it,” he said.

Tilman, chairman of the House Education Committee, has tried for the last four sessions to pass legislation allowing creation of charter schools.
