Damphousse Joins 800 Club In Victory

Rookie goalie Jose Theodore made a season-high 47 saves and Vincent Damphousse reached the 800-point plateau with a goal and two assists Monday night, leading the host Montreal Canadiens to a 4-2 win over the San Jose Sharks.

Theodore, making his 10th career start, made 21 saves in the second period while protecting a 3-1 lead.

Damphousse scored his 21st goal on a power play at 6:15 of the first period, his first goal in 10 games since Jan. 22. He got his 800th career point with an assist on Vladimir Malakhov’s goal at 18:11 of the first period.

Coyotes leave Blues howling

Nikolai Khabibulin made 37 saves and Keith Tkachuk scored his 34th goal to lift the visiting Phoenix Coyotes to a 4-2 win over the St. Louis Blues.

The loss was St. Louis’ fourth in its last six games at home and dropped the Blues to 11-15-4 at Kiel Center.

Blues, Keenan settle contract

The Blues and Mike Keenan settled their contract dispute, averting a hearing with NHL commissioner Gary Bettman. Settlement terms were not revealed. Keenan had been seeking $6 million; the Blues had offered $3 million.

Keenan, the Blues’ former general manager and coach, was fired Dec. 19 with 3 years remaining on a contract he signed in 1994 that paid him $2 million a year.
