Fema Establishes Disaster Area Hotline

From Staff And Wire Reports

Victims of North Idaho’s latest disaster have more sources of information now that flood and storm recovery efforts have kicked into full gear.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has set up a mitigation hotline for residents and business owners affected by the ice storm, flooding or heavy snows that struck in November, December and over the New Year’s holiday.

The hotline offers tips on how to reduce future damage. The phone number is (800) 437-0457.

In addition, FEMA is distributing 60,000 copies of “Recovery Times” throughout the 17 Idaho counties that were declared disaster areas. The newsletter contains articles about getting disaster assistance and ways to prepare for and minimize the effects of disasters in Idaho.

A total of 1,755 residents have registered for disaster assistance, including 369 from Bonner County, 143 from Boundary County, 125 from Kootenai County and 70 from Shoshone County.

To register for assistance, call (800) 462-9029. The deadline to apply for disaster assistance programs is March 5.
