Obituaries

John Greenlee Spokane

Service for John F. Greenlee, 77, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Burial will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Born in Lawrenceville, Ill., Mr. Greenlee died Saturday.

He was a master pyrotechnician and produced the nightly fireworks displays during Expo ‘74. He also created fireworks displays at the national and world Boy Scout jamborees held at Farragut State Park and handled other displays throughout the Inland Northwest.

He operated a fireworks assembly plant in Valleyford and was a Red Devil Fireworks wholesaler.

Mr. Greenlee had served as commissioner for Spokane Fire District 8. He was a member of Orchard Masonic Lodge No. 200, Provost Guard of El Katif Shrine Temple, and the Shadle Lions Club.

His wife, Jeanne, died in 1989.

He is survived by a daughter, Jan Abbott of Poquoson, Va.; and a sister, Norma Beseler of Centuria, Wis.

George Judd Silver Peak, Nev.

Service for George Henry Judd, 66, will be at 11 a.m. today at United Methodist Church in Colville, Wash. Graveside service will follow at Colville Cemetery. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Inchelium, Wash., Mr. Judd died Wednesday in Silver Peak, Nev.

He operated his family’s farm near Inchelium until 1950, when he moved to Spokane and worked at the magnesium plant.

He returned to the Colville area and worked in logging and mining. He later lived and worked in Wellpinit, Wash., Spokane, Aztec, N.M., and Kettle Falls, Wash., until 1972.

He moved to Ketchikan, Alaska, and worked as an off-road log truck driver. He returned to Spokane and worked for Pack River Lumber Company until 1982.

He then moved to Manhattan, Nev., and worked in mines in that area. He retired in 1992 due to poor health.

Mr. Judd is survived by his wife, Bonnie Judd; three sons, Duane Judd of Kettle Falls, Monte Judd of Chattaroy and James Judd of Heppner, Ore.; four stepsons, Garry, Albert and Lee Howes, all of Spokane, and Larry Howes of Colville; two daughters, Shirley Judd of Hermiston, Ore., and Karla Judd of Silver Peak; a stepdaughter, Pamela Howes of Spokane; a sister, Nellie Allison of Spokane; 11 grandchildren, 14 stepgrandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.

Carl Mack Spokane

Funeral Mass for Carl Anthony Mack, 83, will be at 10 a.m. today at Assumption Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Mack, who was born in Camrose, Alberta, died Friday.

He was a longtime Spokane resident and had worked as a welder for R.A. Hanson Company.

Mr. Mack was a member of the Moose Lodge No. 161 and Assumption Catholic Church.

His wife of 39 years, Barbara, preceded him in death.

He is survived by two daughters, Sandra Kimball of Spokane and Barbara Gaver of Veradale; a son, David Mack of Spokane; three sisters, Helen Matwshen, Stella Demmert and Verna Russel, all of Texas; three brothers, Will Mack of Texas, Sye Mack of Tucson, Ariz., and Eddie Mack of Ohio; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Walfred ‘Wally’ Wogman Spokane

Memorial service for Walfred “Wally” Wogman, 94, is set for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Fowler United Methodist Church. Burial will precede at Fairmount Memorial Park. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Wogman, who died Saturday, was born in Medford, Wis.

He was a 64-year Spokane resident and had worked as a fuel truck driver for Banner Fuel.

Mr. Wogman is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lela Wogman; two sons, Ned Wogman of Kennewick and Larry Wogman of Chehalis, Wash.; five granddaughters and six great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Fowler United Methodist Church or the Spokane Guild School Foundation.

Wayne Crouch Spokane

Memorial service for Wayne N. Crouch, 78, is planned for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Baptist Church. Burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Crouch, who died Friday, was born in New Brighton, Pa.

He grew up in Toledo, Ohio, and graduated from high school there.

He also graduated form Western Reserve University School of Architecture in Cleveland.

Mr. Crouch served in the Army during World War II and moved to Spokane in 1956.

He worked for several architecture firms in Spokane and then went to work for Spokane School District 81 as an architect from 1961 to 1971. He then worked for the City of Spokane, also as an architect, for nine years, and retired in 1980.

He received the Golden Acorn Award from the Parent Teacher Association and the Silver Beaver Award from the Boy Scouts of America.

Mr. Crouch sang in barber shop quartets and was a member of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America. He was also a member of the Shrine Chanters Men’s Chorus and the Trinity Baptist Church choir.

He was a member of Central Camp of Gideons International and the American Institute of Architects.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Merna Crouch; three sons, Tom and Jim Crouch, both of Spokane and Jeff Crouch of Cheney; a sister, Delores Skinner of Naples, Fla.; and four grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church or the Shriner’s Hospital for Children.

Vera Pool Moscow, Idaho

Service for Vera Pool, 81, will be at 10 a.m. today at Kramer Funeral Home in Palouse, Wash. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Palouse.

Mrs. Pool died Friday.

She was born near Palouse.

Her family operated a dairy farm south of Palouse, and she graduated from high school in Palouse.

In 1933 she married Fred Pool in Coeur d’Alene. They settled in Potlatch, Idaho, until 1942, when they moved to Palouse. She was a homemaker.

In 1955 they moved to Coeur d’Alene.

Mrs. Pool had lived in a care facility in Post Falls and recently moved to Latah Health Services in Moscow.

Her husband died in December Survivors include a son, Ron Pool of Moscow; a daughter, Evelyn Crumley of Potlatch; four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, two stepgreat-grandchildren and one stepgreat-great-grandson.

Ora Moeller Spokane

Memorial service for Ora Eileen Moeller, 75, was Monday at the Good Samaritan Village Chapel. Burial was at Pines Cemetery.

Mrs. Moeller, who was born in Ashland, Wis., died Thursday.

She moved to Spokane with her family and married Herman Moeller in 1938. He died in 1993.

Mrs. Moeller was a member of The Royal Neighbors of America Lodge.

Survivors include a son, Walt Moeller of Spokane; and three grandchildren.

Clell ‘C.C.’ Nance Spokane

Visitation for Clell “C.C.” Nance, 79, is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home. Service will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with burial at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mr. Nance, a longtime Spokane resident, died Sunday.

He was born in Joplin, Mo., and came to Spokane when he was 7.

He attended West Valley High School.

Mr. Nance worked at White Pine Sash Co. for 11 years. He also bought and sold livestock and operated What a Way To Go, a horse transportation business.

He was a horse trainer and a member of the Washington Horsebreeders Association and the Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Bessie, at home; four daughters, Darlene Cole, Gloria Marsh and Dixie Clapper, all of Spokane, and Belinda Fisher of Fitzhugh, Okla.; two sisters, Blanche Jenkinson and Helen Leinum, both of Spokane; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Mary (Watkins) Copeland Spokane

Memorial service for Mary E. (Watkins) Copeland, 75, is planned for 2 p.m. today at North Hill Christian Church. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Copeland, who died Saturday, was born in Spokane and was a homemaker.

She was a member of the North Hill Christian Church.

Her husband, Howard Copeland, died in 1995.

Mrs. Copeland is survived by two daughters, Kathy Beaver of Spokane and Betsy Munroe of Rochester, Minn.; two sons, Bill Copeland of Spokane and Bob Copeland of Colorado Springs, Colo.; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Oscar Wilson Spokane

No service will be held for Oscar E. Wilson, 88. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Wilson, who died Thursday, was born in Worcester, Mass.

He worked as a toolman in a machine shop and lived in Spokane for 18 years.

He is survived by a sister, Hilda Rivard of of Auburn, Mass.; a daughter, Doris Wilson of Worcester; a son, Edvin Wilson of Puyallup, Wash.; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

James Guenther Deer Park

Service for James Albert “Jim” Guenther, 89, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Open Door Congregational Church in Deer Park. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. at Greenwood Cemetery in Hunters, Wash. Lauer Funeral Home of Deer Park is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Guenther, who was born in Hunters, died Friday.

He retired from the Stevens County Road Department in 1969 after 35 years.

He was a member of Open Door Congregational Church and served on the work and repair committee.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Thelma (Dashiell) Guenther; three sons, George Guenther of Deer Park, Loren Guenther of Kettle Falls, Wash., and Larry Guenther of Nine Mile Falls; a sister, Margaret Brown of Otis Orchard; a stepbrother, Wayne Hutchinson of Yoncalla, Ore.; eight grandchildren, 10 stepgrandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, 19 stepgreat-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

Earl ‘Pete’ Peterson Spokane

Private burial service for Earl W. “Pete” Peterson, 84, will be held. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Mason City, Ill., Mr. Peterson died Saturday.

He joined the Navy just before the start of World War II and was sent to Farragut Naval Station.

Following the war, he moved to Spokane. He operated taverns, and later, the Skylark restaurant.

He was a member of Elks Lodge No. 228, Moose Lodge No. 161 and the Brotherhood of Friends.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Juanita Peterson.

Lawrence Kempsky Spokane

Service for Lawrence Kempsky, 73, will be at 2 p.m. today at Holy Cross Cemetery Chapel. Inurnment will follow. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Kempsky, a lifetime Spokane resident, died last Tuesday.

He was a member of the Army Air Corps from 1941 until 1945.

Mr. Kempsky had worked as a glazier and was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church.

He is survived by a niece, Shelley Greenside of Spokane; and a nephew.

Marian Fillman Spokane

No service will be held for Marian P. Fillman, at her request. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Minot, N.D., Mrs. Fillman died Wednesday. She was 89.

She was a longtime Spokane resident and retired from the Farm Credit Bank after 30 years.

Her husband of 49 years, Harold Fillman, died in 1993.

She is survived by a daughter, Helen Romero of Spokane; a stepdaughter, Delone Rae Brakefield of Arlington, Va.; six grandchildren and four great-grandsons.
