Chiefs May Lose Tackle

John Alt, the star tackle for the Kansas City Chiefs who has been beset with back problems for years, has a neck injury that could threaten his career.

Doctors have told the 13-year veteran he has two bulging disks in his neck.

Newly retired quarterback Jim Kelly may join NBCTV as an NFL announcer.

Kelly is to meet today in New York with NBC Sports president Dick Ebersol and other network sports executives to discuss working for the network.

With his formal introduction in Hempstead, N.Y., the Bill Parcells era has begun for the New York Jets, who hope their new coach can reverse the sagging franchise’s fortune.

“My goal is to hopefully revitalize this franchise to where we can compete for a championship,” Parcells said. “We have to instill in the players the pride to do that.”
