US West Media Group on Thursday reported a fourth-quarter loss of $81 million, mainly due to the purchase last year of Continental Cablevision.

The earnings report for US West Media Group came on the heels of US West Communications Group’s fourth-quarter earnings of $311 million, up 10.7 percent over the final quarter of 1995.

US West Media’s fourth-quarter loss of 16 cents a share compared with earnings of $72 million, or 15 cents a share, in the fourth quarter of 1995.

US West Communications Group and US West Media Group are separate units of US West Inc.
